On Wednesday, October 5, school will be closed in observance of Yom Kippur. School is also closed on
Monday, October 10 for Columbus/Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Finally, school will be closed on Monday,
Oct 17 for professional development for teachers and staff.


Updated student health forms must be submitted to the school nurse no later than September 30.

The first all school meeting of the year will be in the gymnasium at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, September 30 at
2:30 P.M.

Please note that the date for Picture Day has been changed. It will now take place on Friday, October 21. Students may wear an outfit of their choice for picture day.


The Lower School back to school night will be on Wednesday, October 12 from 6-8 P.M.

The Side by Side Board of Directors meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:15 P.M. The
meetings are open to the public, except for executive sessions, and the first fifteen minutes of each
meeting are reserved for public comment. During the public session of the board meetings any
member of the public, parent or student community is free to attend and provide public
comment. Minutes of each SBS monthly board meeting are posted on the SBS website under the
“Board of Directors” section.

What’s New Wednesday

The Carver Program for the upper school (Monday through Thursday) began on Monday and will end on
Thursday May 25, 2023. The after school program takes place at Side by Side and runs from the end of
the school day (3:40) until 5:40 PM. The program is designed to help support your child(ren)
academically as well as introduce them to new and exciting enrichment opportunities. Bus
transportation home is provided however, please note that you will be contacted directly from the
Carver program transportation coordinator once your bus assignment is effective.


The Durham School Services bus tracking app is now operational for Side by Side Students. Please call
the main office to obtain your child’s ID number, download the app, https://norwalkps.org/574131_3
here or from the Norwalk Public Schools website and track your child’s bus route to and from school
each day.

The upper school open house “town hall” style meeting will take place tonight, Thursday, Sept. 7, from
6-8 P.M. and will begin with a pizza dinner for upper school students only and at least one
parent/guardian in attendance.

What’s New Wednesday

Today, students are being dismissed at 1:30 P.M. due to the snow fall.

Friday, March 4 is a dress down day for students and staff.
Teachers are scheduling in person parent conferences at present so please remember to review
the schedule your child’s teacher provided and sign up for a conference time. Parents that prefer
to meet virtually have that option as well. In addition, if any parent would prefer to have a
translator present for the conference, please request one in advance.
There will be three early release dates in March. Two ninety minute early release days for parent
teacher conferences are on Thursday, March 17 and Thursday, March 24. On Monday, March
28, there will be a two hour early dismissal for professional development.
The 8th grade class has planned a Spirit Week Fundraiser during the week of March 21st– 25th
to raise funds for their trip to Washington D.C. in May. Please see the flyer for further details.
Covid testing in Norwalk is available seven days a week at Shady Beach, 99 Calf Pasture Beach
