PTCO

The Side by Side Parent Teacher Community Organization (PTCO) welcomes you to the 2019-2020 school year!  We will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 4:30 PM and also use a Facebook Group for communication and coordination.  We invite all Side by Side parents, teachers, and community members to join us.  Our group is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1278676702164931/

We have the following goals:

  • To promote and enhance the educational and cultural offerings of SBS Charter School
  • To assist the faculty, staff and administration of SBS Charter School
  • To contribute to the sense of community among the families served by and attending SBS Charter School
  • To provide public service opportunities for SBS Charter School’s students and families
  • To facilitate programs and opportunities that encourage families to become involved in the education of their children
  • To promote and plan activities for students that serve their educational, developmental, and social needs
  • To engage in such fundraising activities that are necessary or proper to achieve the above mentioned PTCO purposes

We do this by:

  • Participating enthusiastically in Side by Side class, school, and community events
  • Encouraging other friends and classmates to participate in Side by Side class, school, and community events
  • Reaching out to other parents, teachers, and community members via meet and greet tables at events like the first day of school, back to school nights, and first period parent teacher conferences
  • Assisting with International Night – a potluck dinner for the entire school where each family is invited to bring a dish to share from a country that is meaningful to them.

We welcome suggestions!

Our next family event is on Thursday, April 2 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at SkyZone. All are welcome!

Restaurant fundraising partnerships build community and raise funds at the same time. If you know of a local restaurant willing to donate a percentage of sales to a favorite charity (SBS,) please share the contact name and number with a PTCO member.

The Stop and Shop A Plus School Rewards program has been a source of revenue for many years at Side by Side.  Families can earn cash for our school with each purchase at Stop and Shop by registering online at stopandshop.com and using our ID # 05860 when selecting Side by Side school.

Our BoxTops for Education collection box is in the lobby of the main office.  Families can continue to clip boxtops and send them to school in backpacks with their student or download the new mobile app on your device and scan your sales receipts to earn cash for Side by Side. Go to BTFE.com to find participating products and learn how it works.

If your family has enjoyed one of our SBS Family Fun nights in the recent past and you want to bring this back to our school events calendar, please let one of the PTCO members know and we’ll work to make that happen. We need to know what, where and how you like to spend time with your children and other SBS families.

Class Facebook pages are a great way to get to know your child’s classmates and their families. There are so many free family friendly places to gather and build friendships outside of school. If you haven’t found your class on Facebook, speak with Evelyn in the office to get help starting one.

Thank you to the many families who respond so cheerfully to our appeals for donations, volunteers or goods and services.  A significant portion of the money generated through fundraising is used to cover the costs of field trips for every grade level, but particularly the upper school field trips to Nature’s classroom, Sturbridge, and Washington, D.C. Additionally, the PTCO may grant teacher requests for classroom materials and activities periodically or fund cultural arts presentations once or twice in the school year as funds are made available.
