Welcome to Carole Oddie and Mr. Hansen's Humanities class!
We are heading into an exciting year of student publication, and reading varied genres that will expand students''s taste in good literature.
In addition to our study of free verse poetry which culminates in our Annual Poetry Performance, we are going to study a new type of poetry, Urban Poetry. Urban Poetry is spoken poetry which requires putting emotion and passion into your words. Students work with a team and they compete for the writing and performance.
This year the 8th grade will be going to see the performance of Alvin Ailey in NewYork. This is a dance company that combines a unique blend of modern dance and ballet. It has a historical intrepretation rooted in the African American human experience.
In addition in concert with our study of the Civil War we will visit Bush Holley House In Grenwich Ct . This is a restored housethat simulates the living quarters of northern slaves . At the close of the study the 8th grade will be going to Gettysburg Pennsyvania for a culminating study of the Civil War.
