**IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING ADMISSIONS/ SBS LOTTERY FOR

ENROLLMENT TO THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR**

Due to school closure resulting from COVID-19, please note the following changes to the lottery and admissions process for 2020-21:

  • All originally scheduled Open Houses are postponed
  • The SBS enrollment Lottery for the 2020-21 school year will now take place on Wed, May 20 at 5pm
  • The lottery will be closed to the public but will be live-streamed (COMING SOON)
  • Applications for the lottery will be made available on our website (COMING SOON)
  • All completed applications will be due no later than Friday, May 8 at 4pm
  • Any applications received after the deadline will NOT be considered

Any child who is a resident of Connecticut is eligible to apply.  Applications are accepted for children entering pre-school (3 & 4 year olds) through the 8th grade.  The birth date cut-off date for preschool is September 1st and December 31st for Kindergarten through eighth grades.

Once an application is reviewed and accepted, all applicants will receive a lottery number. On May 20 lottery "numbers" will be randomly drawn to determine a sequential waitlist for each grade level.  (The higher up your number is on the waitlist, the greater the chances for being offered a spot for enrollment)

The SBS enrollment lottery is strictly for the purpose of creating a sequential waitlist.  The waitlist wil be used to offer spots for enrollment when/if it is determined that there are vacancies at each given grade level

**Any false or inaccurate information provided on an application for enrollment will deem that application void and the applicant will be removed from the lottery process.

**If any false or inaccurate information is determined after enrollment is offered and accepted, that child's spot will be revoked and offered to the next applicant on the waitlist**

All decisions regarding eligibility and enrollment via the SBS lottery are at the discretion of The Side by Side Charter School Board of Directors

ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE SBS ENROLLMENT LOTTERY FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO: lottery@sbscharter.org

Like all charter schools, Side by Side functions independently from any local or traditional public school system. At Side by Side, our innovative approaches toward education allow us to actively and equally involve parents, teachers, and students in our day-to-day operations.

March 20, 2020

Dear Side by Side Families:

During this unexpected closure our objective will continue to be to best provide an adequate level of teaching and learning opportunities to your children while dealing with these unplanned circumstances.  The Side by Side staff and I will require a purposeful, realistic and balanced level of accountability for all children and families with regards to engaging in the learning activities that we are providing.  Simultaneously, that balanced approach will provide flexibility to all families and will consider the many other hardships and interruptions that you are managing.

Lastly, I would like to remind all parents, guardians and staff to please consider the perspective of all that is happening through the lens of a child.   These are unprecedented times and circumstances. I share in your anxiousness, nervousness and uncertainty.  But please remember that our children see this.  For them it is worse.  They rely on our strength, support and reassurance that things will be alright.   Talk about COVID-19, and certainly remind your children about safe practices to avoid spreading it.  But at the same time, turn off the TV.  Take away the iphone.  Go for a walk outside. Smile and remind your kids to do the same.  Together, we WILL get through this.

Sincerely,

Mr. Nittoly
