Music

The Upper School music curriculum at Side by Side provides students with experiences in listening to music, playing instruments, reading and notating music, and creating music.

Music units for upper school students include the following:

  • African/Latin American Drumming
  • Keyboard (piano) Skills
  • Recorder Skills 
  • Guitar Skills
  • Music Composition (using computer software)

Throughout the year students work independently, with partners, and in small groups on a variety of projects.  Goals for upper school students in music are:

  • To develop the ability to listen critically to music
  • To develop basic skills on several different instruments
  • To learn to read and notate music
  • To understand and identify features of various musical styles
  • To develop the ability to create original music
