PreK children are provided with many opportunities to explore and use mathematical concepts. The children develop mathematical thinking through our every day routines and hands-on experiences.

Some examples are:

  • calendar
  • weather
  • attendance
  • snack time
  • manipulatives (i.e. unifix cubes, colored tiles/counters, pattern blocks)
  • small group and large group mathematical investigations

The math concepts and skills emphasized in our PreK classrooms are:

  • Number exploration and identification
  • Counting
  • Sorting
  • Shape exploration and identification
  • Graphing
  • Measuring
  • Classifying
  • Comparing
  • One-to-one correspondence
  • Patterning
